Decide Which Files Need Recovery Copies

Start with what would be difficult to replace.

The practical starting point

For a small business, the most valuable files may include current work, customer records and the information needed to operate a service. Make an inventory before copying every folder indiscriminately. Note where each important item lives and who can restore it.

A workable next step

Separate replaceable installers from original documents and operational data. Record the access needed for recovery without placing passwords in a public checklist. Identify which copies are independent of the original service. Then choose a small representative item for a restore exercise. The inventory should support a recovery decision, not merely produce a larger volume of stored files.

Keep in your notes

  • Inventory important data.
  • Identify independent copies.
  • Keep access details private.
