The practical starting point
Imagine a small repair business whose visitors mainly need to know which items it accepts and how to arrange a visit. A useful brief starts with those questions. A large welcome photograph may suit the design, but it does not answer the practical questions on its own.
A workable next step
List the reader, task, information needed and desired next step in four short fields. Then identify the page that will provide each answer. Review the brief with someone who handles real enquiries. Use content-design guidance as a method, while keeping your own business facts and promises separately verified.
Keep in your notes
- Who is the reader?
- What are they trying to do?
- Which answer is missing?
